#60 Obituary: Democracy, 1776-2010

Democracy went to be with the Lord today. It was 233 years old. The son of the Founding Fathers and Daughters of Liberty was born on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Raised by the country it became a beacon to the rest of the world. In its youth it passed all means of expectations and excelled in keeping its promises, morals, and values. It is survived by millions of soldiers fighting for it, many conservatives who tried to keep it's values, and immigrants from around the world whom it adopted. It was preceded in death by its uncles and mentors, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison, countless friends and believers in what it stood for. A public funeral will be held in Washington, DC at the Capitol building for all to pay final respects. President Obama will be officiating the services.
This will be the sad truth come Sunday morning, the first day of spring; the day that life is supposed to be symbolically resurrected each year. This year it will not happen. The Democrats will have killed that dream and reality with one sweeping and illegal vote on health care.
There are 5 major principals of Democracy:
  1. Consent of the governed
  2. Limited government
  3. Majority Rules
  4. Representation
  5. Checks and Balances
The political party named after a concept of freedom and values has destroyed everything it stood for. Where does the Democratic Party actually fit in to any of these principles? No where. They hold all three major parts of government (Senate, House, and White House) with the Speaker from day one of this bill kept saying IT WILL PASS NO MATTER WHAT. She has gone to the farthest lengths to get this bill passed by having closed door operations, unfair deal making and now an illegal vote. And because of that forget checks and balances from the DEM. With the passage of this bill it will either conclude or open up the door wider to more government regulations and control over the American people. In the last year the government has taken over banks, car industries, and some of the housing markets. With this bill it will pretty much complete the destruction of the power of the American citizen, so forget limited government. Every poll taken on this health care consistently shows that the majority of Americans do not want this to become law but what does the DEM party do about it? They "press on" and ignore their own constituents; the same people who trusted them to do the right thing. Thereby saying goodbye to majority rules, representation and consent of the governed. In one vote they will have re-killed all the soldiers who died for these freedoms and principles and will have made their deaths be in vain. They will have wiped away the following ideas and will have erased their value from history:
  • “No man is good enough to govern another man without that other’s consent.” -Abe Lincoln
  • “There is nothing more corrupting…than the exercise of unlimited power.” -William Henry Harrison
  • "A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.” --Dwight Eisenhower
  • “Officeholders are the agents of the people, not their masters.” Grover Cleveland
Thank you Democratic Party. Thank you, Mrs Speaker. Thank you, Mr. Majority leader and thank you Mr. President for killing the American. Now the rest of the world can be at peace, the giant has gone back to sleep...
Side note:
Predictions: Yes votes= 231 No votes= 200. Right now there are only 431 Representatives active.
Election 2010, GOP +18 seats in House and GOP +3 in Senate. Harry Reid will be gone.

Great comment!! I hope you are wrong, but I fear you are not!! I am doing my best to help my kids understand the sham that is taking place in DC!!! We are watching an illegal process being used to activate an illegal bill. The dems - lets call them what they are SOCIALISTS - are liars, thieves and need to be jailed. My God have mercy on their soles.

It is time to get rid of all of them.

The good news is, when this passes, the GOP/Conservatives will sweep the November elections and this can be repealed in 2011 unless they put a stipulation that it has to go a couple of years.

I have had it with Democrats. I will never vote for another idiot like everyone in that whole party ever again.

Anonymous said...

First of all hahaha!
Now explain to me why it was illegal.

Gozreht said...

Anon,

It is illegal due to the fact that bills being voted on that deal with money (the Budget)have to have a 2/3majority vote. Which means 67% or roughly 289 votes when all 435 Reps are active, but should have been 287 on sunday (only 431 seats are filled) and in the Senate it would be 67 votes. But this was treated not as a bill that deals with money, even though it has tax vocabulary and penalties. This was treated as any other bill. And they did that through a procdure called reconciliation, which would drop the needed votes back down to >50%. That is reason #1. Without this action it would not have passed.

The second reason is becuase of the penalty clause. The federal goveremnet which by the constitution itself says it has to be a republican form of government can not jurisdict certain things in our lives, which the declaration specifically says includes Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Taxes are one thing but to force people to take insurance on your own health is ridiculous. Insurance on your car is different. Without that others may suffer. But your own health insurance only hurts you. So if you refuse to get it then that is your choice. But NOT with this bill. If you are not covered by work then you HAVE to take the government's option or suffer a fine and/or imprisonment!!! Can you say tyranny?

A third reason is more of a moral dilemma. The Speaker of the House only held the vote when she knew she had the votes!!!! If this happened last month, two months ago, eight months ago or when ever it would not have passed. Since the majority party sets the rules and time table, the vote could only happen when she gave the go ahead.

Reason #4- closed-door deals and secrt negotiations- no more needed to say.

Reason #5 is another morality issue. This bill will allow abortions to be funded by the tax payer! Do not be fooled.

Reason #6, Obama says if anything goes wrong with this bill he will order an executive decision to "get it right".

In all honesty I hope you are still laughing in ten years. I pray I am wrong. And if I am I will apologize for all the things I have said. Quote me and mark my words.

My Friend Anon,

My point in saying is illegal is 2 fold.
Procedure: The whole deem and pass approach is not legal from the stand point that is clearly by-passes the established legislative procedure which the house utilizes. This was a side-step and illegal underhanded approach designed to help vulnerable congressman. I understand this process was not used, I believe because the socialist leadership realized it would have invalidated the vote.
2 the Bill: The bill is illegal because the constitution does not give the government the ability to force us to buy something. The constitution is about, and was intended to limit the governments power over the citizenry. I am sure there are other reasons...does not matter because the Karl Marx inspired legislation will be thrown out by the Supreme Court.
Questions for you Anon: If the health care plan is so good why are the dems keeping their own plan? If the plan is so good why all the bribes? Please explian.
One last question for all....if a bill is passed then the president issues an order which contradicts the law which just passed, doesn't that effectively make him a dictator? Yes Karl Marx would be proud!!

No one is mentioning...how will the mandates (as in the required coverage, fines for lack of such, both on businesses and individuals, etc.) of this huge bill be monitored/enforced? My hearing from insiders is that it will be by the 13,000 (? number) additional IRS agents hired specifically for that purpose.

Tiffany said...

But don't you think giving people access to healthcare is better than allowing them to suffer? Seems to be your not very compassionate to people with this attitude.

Gozreht said...

DLC,

Thanks for mentioning that.

Just another piece of bureaucracy to make things better. Because we all know in the past they have worked before (SARCASM).

13,000 new workers for the government. Average pay will be $35,000/year so that means $455 MILLION in just taxes alone to cover that by itself.

Gozreht said...

Tiffany,

I really understand your point of view compeletely. But please understand this, I don't think anyone is upset by trying to get everyone healthcare. If I had a million dollars I would help all of those around me I can. But it's the way this was done and what is in the bill that we shouldn't have to pay for.

Again, abortion WILL be part of this bill, you can guarantee that. I will not help murder anyone for money.

I think we should all wear black and lower our flags to half staff - America as we knew is dead. Someone should mourn. Just remember to vote them ALL out where ever you may live! These people need to understand that they work FOR us. Get rid of them!

This, from another forum thread, is worthwhile. DLC

Perhaps you have already had an email with this in it forwarded to you but in case you haven't below is a short two-paragraph letter to the White House written by a young physician by the name of Dr. Starner Jones. He accurately puts the blame on a "Culture Crisis" instead of a "Health Care Crisis." It's worth a quick read.

Dear Mr. President:

During my shift in the Emergency Room last night, I had the pleasure of evaluating a patient whose smile revealed an expensive shiny gold tooth, whose body was adorned with a wide assortment of elaborate and costly tattoos, who wore a very expensive brand of tennis shoes and who chatted on a new cellular telephone equipped with a popular R&B ringtone.

While glancing over her patient chart, I happened to notice that her payer status was listed as "Medicaid"! During my examination of her, the patient informed me that she smokes more than one costly pack of cigarettes every day and somehow still has money to buy pretzels and beer.

And, you and our Congress expect me to pay for this woman's health care? I contend that our nation's "health care crisis" is not the result of a shortage of quality hospitals, doctors or nurses. Rather, it is the result of a "crisis of culture", a culture in which it is perfectly acceptable to spend money on luxuries and vices while refusing to take care of one's self or, heaven forbid, purchase health insurance. It is a culture based in the irresponsible credo that "I can do whatever I want to because someone else will always take care of me".

Once you fix this "culture crisis" that rewards irresponsibility and dependency, you'll be amazed at how quickly our nation's health care difficulties will disappear.

Respectfully,

STARNER JONES, MD

DL,
That was a great post!! I will pass that on, thanks.

Tiffany - I understand your point, in my younger years I would have had the same reaction. And, I am compassionate toward those who need help, I want them to have care, absolutely!! Which is why I am against this bill, here are a few reasons.
1)This bill will limit care for those who have a major illness. It has been given the label 'death panel', which is a harsh label, but is the most accurate description. The bill calls it end of life assistance. Do you want to rely on a government panel to deem your care is necessary? I do not.
2)In the system right now there is a mechanism to address the care of those who don't have the means to take care of themselves, called Medicaid (by the way this bill will put such a stress on the existing Medicaid system that anyone in that system will experience reduced care, which is why so many states are filing suits). My mom receives very good care thru medicaid, better than mine.
3) The insurer with the highest amount of rejected claims is.....guess who...Medicare, your government. What will happen when the debt gets even bigger as a result of this bill? A. More rejections!
4)The worst health care system in the US right now is the Veterans Admin, run by who? You know the answer.
For these reasons and more I believe it is much more compassionate to kill this bill keep the government out of my health care. Government can never run things as well as the private sector.

The political right in this country is against gay marriage because it is, as they see it, bad for our nation (our community) regardless of the rights of individuals.

The political right in this country is against health care reform and especially universal health care because it violates the rights of individuals regardless of what it may mean for the greater nation (community).

What am I missing?

Gozreht said...

"D",

Both are life choices.

The homosexual is a life choice (no matter if there is a gene or not). And so this life choice is not appropriate nor beneficial. Morally speaking it is also against the will of God.

The right is NOT against healthcare reform nor healthcare, but universal healthcare because again some things are based on life choices which may have been immoral, unneeded or just plain stupid. Why should we have to pay for abortions, sex changes, face lifts, tummy tucks, or pay for those who are trying to get free rides again? Now of course this bill does not do all of these specifically but it does open the door for it. Abortion WILL be a part of this law some how. I will not help someone murder someone else.

So what you are missing is the black and white of this subject. Liberals tend to make everything gray and that is not reality with all things. And if we listen to liberals then there is no right or wrong, only in betweens and God says do not be like that (luke warm). Be hot or cold!! Now this scripture may not be what this topic is about but it does talk to me in that way. There are universal truths. And the truth shall set you free. Liberalism will steal the soul, fool the mind, and deaden the spirit.

When I sign up for my insurance (car, life, home) they ask me things like 1) are you a smoker, 2) are you a drinker, 3) has anyone in your family had cancer, etc. Based on my answers they set my premiums and since I do not do anything that increases my risk of health problems they give me a lower premium. Then here comes someoe who sleeps around and does so even unprotected, smokes 5 packs a day, is an alcoholic and has had 10 DUIs. His premium should be way higher than mine. As of saturday 3/20/2010 we paid our own bills. As of 3/20/2011 I will get part of his bill top help him remain an alcoholic, buy a 6th pack of cigarettes and give him more condoms. That is not ethical, fair, nor moral.

And why should I allow people of the same sex to get married and get the same benefits I do as a heterosexual married male? Tax breaks, insurance policies (lower risked), and anything else that goes along with this. Marriage is the basis of all human relations with each other. Once it is gone, that's it.

"D" said...

Thanks for your response.

Please consider this:

When conservatives lobby for legislation that limits someone's personal rights (banning gay marriage for instance); it is because it is for the good of all or to protect the rights of the majority, as in not letting the definition of marriage be changed for all of us. However I don't think such legislation would force all of us to change our personal definitions of marriage, seems directed at providing freedom for some whose definition of marriage does not agree with others' to freely hold and exercise their own personal definition. So allowing Gay marriage would not force us all to enter into Gay marriages, just to allow us all to live and let live. BTW, I'm not promoting Gay marriage, I'm just making a pointed observation.

When liberals, on the other hand, promote something that is aimed at the common good, universal health care for instance, conservatives label it communism.

Here's my point:

The staunch defense of "freedom" from the right doesn't seem to be about freedom in general as much as about protecting and promoting the freedom of the right. And maybe that is fine. The left is doing the same thing. But spinning what we do to make it look like we are doing something else is schizophrenic (as in incongruent thinking not dissociative identity disorder), hypocritical, or duplicitous.

A topic for another thread might be "freedom". While we seem to worship "freedom" in America, and it is certainly the foundation, as stated on another thread, of our culture in the US, I don't think freedom, as defined by our culture, is what Jesus promoted and died for. Actually, I think the kind of freedom we all (right and left) often lobby for may be what he died to "free" us from.

I am a Christian and my husband's job just changed their health care policy a little while back. Because of that we had to make cut backs and hopefully won't have any health problems. He works hard. If we have a health care problem he is one of those people who deserves a little help. He is not lazy like most people say would benefit from this bill.

With all that said, we would be glad to give a little more in taxes so people could have health care no matter what their economic status is. Health care is a right and should not be just a privilege granted to those who have money.

If you are claiming to be a Christian shouldn't you have this comapssion as well?

Not supporting this law does not mean that there is no compassion. Plus, no one knows the charities that anyone else supports or anything. I personally have given thousands to family, tens of thousands to churches and even more. That is not to toot my own horn, it is to show an example of how people show compassion without supporting an illegal law.

Health care is a right and should not be just a privilege granted to those who have money.Well, yes and no. Rights are things we are naturally born with. Health care is not something we are born with. It is also not a privilege. It is an opportunity for lack of a better word. Even if a rich person was on a mountain top alone and was dying, all the money wouldn't get him health care. He could still vote for himself, have his own property on top of that mountain, try and prsuit his happiness on that mountain but will still die without health care, since he is not born with it.

Access to health care is not the problem. Run away costs are. And you may not like this but unions getting access to everyone in the union is a good cause of rising costs. Contacts force people into getting health care causing competition to fade in certain cases. No competition equals high costs.

With all that said, we would be glad to give a little more in taxes so people could have health care no matter what their economic status is. I admire what you have said here. Your generousity and compassion in this sentence alone makes me feel better about the world. But, again, most people would probably not have a problem with that. I really wouldn't mind paying a little more for those who really deserveit. But what about those who are not the working class but are not really middle class either at the same time? They are barely making it and if they get taxed more then they can quickly become impoverished. Obama says no taxes on this class, but we'll see.

Thanks for your comments and concern for Americans!!!!

For those of you who are visiting from a link, keep in mind that the blogger is taking everything out of context for her own glory.

Just because one item such as health care is passed does not mean there is no more democracy. This post means that if we are just going to start passing laws based on what the party leaders want and not what the people want then we are headed dwon the wrong path. And yes, democracy as we know it in our life times is best shown by the US.

The blogger uses me a couple of times, which is okay, but reflects a spin on my words which are inaccurate.
